Atmosphere Kanifushi is a premium all-inclusive resort, and home to the first vegetarian restaurant in the Maldives called Just Veg. Expect towering tall palm trees, fine white sand, crystal clear turquoise ocean and superbly appointed villas with their own beach access. It’s hard not to love this place with the carefree vibes, flowing vegan food and drinks and a typical Maldivian picture-postcard landscape.
One of the things that we loved the most about Atmosphere Kanifushi was meeting so many people opting to eat in Just Veg despite being vegetarian or vegan. They were full of praise for the food they’d been served, and most of them went back for more – it’s great to hear that it wasn’t just us that thought this place was impressive!
The first thing to mention about the food and drink (which included wine and premium spirits that were vegan) is that it’s freely available everywhere as part of your ‘Platinum Plus Package’.
Breakfast is served buffet-style in the main restaurant ‘Spice’, there are plenty of vegan options from more traditional western cooked breakfasts, continental breakfasts (with amazing vegan bread) and a regular offering of spicy lentil dahl too.
Our favourite thing about breakfast, though, was the ‘fruit bar’ where one of the Atmosphere Kanifushi team awaits to freshly prepare your chosen fruit from the wide variety on offer, then expertly chops it upright in front of you before sending you off with a vast, healthy fruit plate.
There are a few different lunch options, with the DIY salad from the fresh salad bar in Spice being a great quick and healthy option.
As part of its deluxe all-inclusive offering resort has announced its new plant-based menus across all six F&B outlets, including award-winning restaurant Amazònico. Inspired by increasing guest appetite for healthy food options and the trend towards vegan dining, all the new recipes will be complemented by a creative list of mocktails.
Amazònico will now offer both vegan and vegetarian dishes, including the Jardin Quemado and Chilean Salads, while the resort’s Aqua Restaurant has created a new vegan pumpkin soup, made using fresh pumpkins from the hotel’s vegetable patch will be available.
Elsewhere, Le Asiatique has created a special vegan fried rice, and at the Beach Grill, guests can enjoy a cooling tomato gazpacho. Sweet treats include blueberry and orange cakes and Emerald Maldive’s healthy green tea crème brûlée.
For the ultimate take of plant-based luxury, the resort has also launched a vegan floating breakfast to be enjoyed in the privacy of guest’s own pools. Its the Maldives first Vegan floating Breakfast. Dishes include almond chia seed pudding, fresh bread, fruit salads, herbal teas and exotic fresh juices.
Emerald Maldives introduced the ‘Green Corner’ at Aqua restaurant in January in addition to the new menus. Guests will choose from various ingredients from which to prepare their own smoothies and juices, and these refreshing drinks will also be available at both the Sunrise and Sunset Pools Bars and new for 2021 – in the villa’s very own minibars.
Recognising the increased interest in alcohol-free beverages, the hotel is also launching a new mocktail menu for 2021, with drinks such as non-alcoholic Mango Mule or Passionfruit Daiquiri to look forward to.

Breakfast is served atThe Courtyard’ with the white sands and turquoise ocean as a backdrop. The buffet includes fruits, salads, bread, and cereals (with soya milk available), but the vegan Maldivian curry excited you. Light, fragrant with a subtle hint of chilli that worked so well with the creamy coconut milk we would happily eat for breakfast every day. Served with basmati rice and Maldivian Roshi it was very satisfying indeed. The Chef will help you navigate the buffet and make ‘off menu’ items for us that would be plant-based.
